The team lead(s) have overall responsibility for the trip. Team leads will be selected along with the rest of Give Back Cincinnati’s leadership team during Leadership Recruitment which occurs in early fall each year. Typically a trip lead will be someone who has previously participated in a Give Back Beyond trip.
For international service travel per Habitat Global Village standards there must be one trained team lead per 15 participants. Team lead training takes 3 days and costs $200 per person, which will be funded by Give Back Cincinnati & YP Habitat. Team leads will apply for that position and be selected 9 months prior to international trips.
The head of Give Back Beyond will participate and assist in the trip planning and organization to ensure that the activities and project management are aligned with our overall organizational goals.
Open registrations are accepted from Give Back and the general Cincinnati Community 6-8 months before the trip.
A review committee (3-4) comprised of the team lead(s), board liaison(s), and past trip participants will review the registrations and potentially speak with interested participants. No previous experience is needed; the goal is to form a well-rounded team balancing the strengths of its members.
Confirmed registrants are informed and asked to make a deposit to reserve their position.
Once the team is formed, they self-manage the planning, preparation, fundraising and actual trip (you guys are in charge), various positions take leadership for different aspects of the trip: Fundraising, Travel/Logistics, R&R/Culture, Language (for international), Construction coordinator, Treasurer, Secretary.
Team members are individually responsible for the cost of the trip. The cost of international service travel trips is estimated at $1000 + airfare; the trip to New Orleans is estimated at $450. Give Back Cincinnati & YP Habitat will assist by publicizing fundraising events via the messages to members and through our established relationships in the community.
Information sessions will be held before each team formation process begins, in 2009 those will occur on Feb 12th, Feb 15th, Feb 18th, and Feb 21st.
