Habitat Ghana
Habitat for Humanity Ghana (HFHG) was started in 1987, currently operates in 65 affiliates and has built over 5000 houses in 145 communities countrywide. HFHG uses the community managed affiliate concept where committees made up of local volunteers manage each affiliate. The partnership between HFHG and the local communities as well as other stakeholders facilitates the achievement of the goal of providing shelter for needy families.
Historical Highlights
1987 - Assinman Affiliate, the first Affiliate is approved by Habitat for Humanity International
1988 - Arrival of first International Partners
1989 - Dedication of First houses at Assin Nyankumasi Breman Asikuma, the second Affiliate is approved
1990 - Fosu South, the third Affiliate is approved
1991 - National Office officially started operating in Accra
1998 - Milllard & Linda Fuller, co-founders of Habitat for Humanity International dedicated the 1000th house
2001 - 2,000th house is dedicated
2002 - Participation in the Jimmy Carter Work Project, 200 houses built
2005 - 4,000th house dedicated
2006 - HFH CEO, Jonathan Reckford visits Ghana
2007 - Dedication of 5000th house at Nkwantakese Affiliate 20th Anniversary celebration
2008 - Give Back Beyond's first trip to Kyekyewere, Ghana
