2008 New Orleans Service Travel

Not satisfied with a mere two buses of volunteers, the group expanded to 120 volunteers who will head to NOLA for more building from July 12th-19th (did anyone know it was going to be hot down there then?).

Trip highlights were,

  • A problem free bus ride.
  • Learning how to Cajun Two-Step at Mulates at the Sunday night team dinner.
  • We had to opportunity to give back to Plaquemines Parish.  On Monday, we separated into teams and worked at several areas in the community.  We celebrated that night with the third annual Shrimp Boil at the Blue Angel Lounge.
  • Expanding our work beyond Musicians Village into the surrounding neighborhood in the Upper Ninth Ward.
  • Incredible daily pool parties to relax and unwind…..well sort of.  This included inventing some of our own fun with whatever may be around, like empty beer tubs!
  • Our second visit to the famous Rock-N-Bowl where live bands play as we roll some bowling balls, drink cheap beer, and eat lots of great snacks.
  • A private Preservation Hall Performance for our group only.
  • Starting a new tradition this year, we held an awards party at the pool for those dedicated to the trip and its mission, work and fun!
